A CleanMyMac alternative focused on disk space
CleanMyMac by MacPaw is an all-in-one maintenance suite. DiskApp does one part of that job, finding out where your storage went and clearing what's provably safe, and tries to do it more transparently.

Where DiskApp is different
- You see the whole disk first. A sunburst you can click into, and a treemap that stays smooth past a few million files. Every folder is sized by what it really holds, hard links counted once.
- It knows developer folders.
node_modules,target,.venvand similar only count when a project file proves it’s a project that’s been idle 7+ days. Xcode, simulators, Gradle, Homebrew and AI model folders are named, not lumped in with junk. - Clears go to the Trash, no account needed. Put Back works until you empty it.
- Findings need proof. A folder is flagged because a rule or an app’s bundle ID proves what it is, not because it looks like junk. System folders, Keychains, iCloud Drive, Messages, Photos and
.sshare refused outright. - Some things it won’t touch on purpose. Docker, the pnpm store, simulator devices and Time Machine snapshots are managed by their own tools. DiskApp shows their size and the exact command to run, and never deletes them itself.
- Nothing happens silently. Every clear is written to a plain log at
~/Library/Logs/DiskApp/operations.log.
Where CleanMyMac is the better pick
- You want malware scanning, performance tools or an app updater in the same place.
- You want an app from the Mac App Store or Setapp, or notarized by Apple. DiskApp isn’t notarized yet, so the first open needs one approval in System Settings.
- You have an Intel Mac. DiskApp’s current build is Apple Silicon only.
- You want to buy today. DiskApp Pro isn’t on sale yet, although scanning already works for free.
