A DiskBuddy alternative for Mac
DiskBuddy and DiskApp are close cousins. Both show where your space went and send what you clear to the Trash. The difference is in what each one decides is safe to flag, and who it's built for.

The short version
DiskBuddy leans toward many ways of looking at your disk, plus duplicate finding, and runs on Windows too. DiskApp leans toward rules: it flags a folder only when it can prove what it is, knows developer and AI tool folders by name, and leaves tool-managed data to the tool’s own commands.

Where DiskApp is different
- Developer and AI folders by name.
node_modules,target,.venvand similar only count when a project file proves it’s a project that’s been idle 7+ days. Xcode, simulators, Gradle, Homebrew, npm, Ollama, LM Studio and Hugging Face folders are recognized. - Tool-managed data stays with the tool. Docker, the pnpm store, simulator devices and Time Machine snapshots are never deleted by DiskApp. You get the size and the exact command to run yourself.
- A hard refuse list. System folders, Keychains, iCloud Drive, Messages, Photos and
.sshcan’t be cleared at all, and every clear is re-checked right before it runs. - A log of everything. Each clear is written to
~/Library/Logs/DiskApp/operations.log. - Free to scan. The sunburst, the map and every finding work without paying or signing up.
Where DiskBuddy is the better pick
- You also use Windows and want one app and one license for both.
- You want duplicate files found across your whole disk.
- You like switching between many different views of the same data.
- You want to buy today. DiskApp Pro isn’t on sale yet.
